C4PC ENDORSES DREW PATE, MD, FOR DELEGATE IN MARYLAND ASSEMBLY'S 41ST DISTRICT (NW BALTIMORE)

Clinicians for Progressive Care is pleased to endorse Drew Pate, MD, the progressive choice for Maryland Assembly 41st District (Northwest Baltimore). During twenty five years of practice as a physician, Dr. Pate has achieved a thorough and compassionate understanding of what makes our healthcare system unfair and unsustainable: a failure to meet people’s needs where they are, fairly and affordably. His campaign focuses on what the people of Baltimore need, and does not pit one group against another with insinuations of violence or dehumanization.

Dr. Pate is double board-certified physician in psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. He completed medical school at LSU School of Medicine (elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha society) and completed residency at the Sheppard Pratt Hospital in Baltimore and at Harvard Medical School/Children’s Hospital in Baltimore.

In addition to his prestigious academic training and clinical expertise, Dr. Pate has something which many candidates (and too many of our establishment political figures) do not understand: the knowledge that community based health care is a necessary way forward to provide healthcare to the neediest and most vulnerable in a way which meets their needs. As a grassroots candidate with the Green Party, Dr. Pate can work with neighborhoods to make change, without being beholden to the status quo.

We need universal care, community health as an intersectional effort to treat the effects of racism, understanding for those suffering from substance use disorder, and the expertise to bring those proposals to fruition. C4PC believes Dr. Pate is the candidate to make those happen.

C4PC ENDORSES SACHIN HEBBAR FOR DELEGATE TO MARYLAND ASSEMBLY (DISTRICT 42B)

Baltimore, MD (March 14, 2018) -- Clinicians for Progressive Care is pleased to endorse Sachin Hebbar for Delegate in the Maryland Assembly representing District 42B (Baltimore County). Sachin will leverage his experience as a scientist, community activist and immigrant to help problems affecting everyone in Maryland.

Sachin was born in India where he studied biology and went on to earn a PhD from Mumbai University. He came to the United States as a postdoctoral fellow at Wake Forest University and has received multiple scientific grants to study cancer, cellular and molecular biology. Now living in Lutherville, MD, he founded Indivisible North Baltimore County to organize against the Trump Administration’s threats to human rights.

Sachin wants to improve the health of Marylanders with single payer health care. He supports limitation of the exorbitant costs of medications by allowing Medicare to negotiate prices and reforming patent laws for lifesaving drugs. Sachin also understands that direct action to address racial inequality is paramount to community health. He wants to increase access to care for people with chronic health conditions while also promoting safe housing, quality education and nutrition.

Sachin’s expertise as an organizer, scientist, advocate, and parent will make him an ideal delegate for the people of Baltimore County. We are proud to lend him our support.

C4PC ENDORSES NILESH KALYANARAMAN, MD, FOR DELEGATE TO MARYLAND ASSEMBLY (43RD DISTRICT)

Baltimore, MD (February 14, 2018) -- Clinicians for Progressive Care is proud to announce its endorsement of Dr. Nilesh Kalyanaraman, MD, for Delegate in the Maryland Assembly, representing District 43 (North Baltimore). Dr. Nilesh has dedicated his professional life as a physician to treating the underserved, and will continue to advocate in Annapolis for all his constituents, especially the disadvantaged and vulnerable. DONATE to Dr. Nilesh.

Dr. Nilesh went to medical school at SUNY Brooklyn School of Medicine and trained in Internal Medicine at Emory University in Atlanta. He went on to care for imprisoned and homeless patients in Baltimore.

Dr. Nilesh is chief health officer at a community health center in Baltimore where he has strengthened programs to help those with pain and substance use problems. When Maryland expanded Medicaid coverage as part of the Affordable Care Act, he saw the positive impact on the lives of his patients. Medicaid gave ordinary people access to necessary health care that was previously unaffordable. Dr. Nilesh will work to expand coverage to all Marylanders, eliminate the 20 year gap in life expectancies across Baltimore neighborhoods, and reduce costs of prescription medicines.

In addition to health care reform, Dr. Nilesh seeks to ensure affordable housing by reforming rent court, expanding eviction prevention services and reinvesting in poor communities. He wants to strengthen public schools and job training programs that will help families adapt to the changing economy. He recognizes the segregation and racism that are a part of African Americans’ daily life.

Dr. Nilesh will be a force for good in the Maryland Assembly, and C4PC is excited to support him.

Baltimore, MD (December 11, 2017) -- Clinicians for Progressive Care announces its endorsement of Richard Bruno, MD, to represent the 41st District, Northwest Baltimore, as delegate in Maryland’s Assembly. A family doctor and preventive medicine specialist, husband, father, and long-time advocate for social justice and universal healthcare, Dr. Bruno will bring a passionate, experienced, expert activism to Maryland state government. DONATE TO RICHARD BRUNO.

Zackary Berger, MD, PhD, the Treasurer of C4PC, says, “Dr.  Bruno is well known in Baltimore, and across Maryland and the entire US, as a tireless fighter for justice. He has volunteered in the trenches, as a union organizer, board member of many justice-minded health organizations, and campaigner for fair wages at Baltimore medical centers. But he’s no mere self-righteous firebrand: Richard was appointed by Governor Larry Hogan to a state medical council. He knows what’s right and won’t back down - yet isn’t afraid to reach across the aisle for the good of Marylanders.”

Dr. Bruno is from Little Rock, Arkansas, and has attended some of the nation’s most prestigious institutions, including Princeton University and Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine. He trained in Family & Preventive Medicine at MedStar Franklin Square and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Currently practicing medicine in Baltimore, he will bring what he’s learned from healing ordinary Marylanders to service in the Assembly.
